How To Start a Startup…..  Don’t miss this!

If you haven’t heard already, Sam Altman, President of the Startup incubator Y Combinator, is running a FREE 20 course class with Stanford University.  Altman has gathered some of the top names in the tech/business startup world, as guest lecturers, to share their experiences and insights on a variety of key issues.  The first session included Facebook co-founder, Dustin Mokovitz, sharing his views on ‘why to start a startup’.  You will also have the opportunity to hear Peter Thiel delve into business strategy and his infamous ‘monopoly theory’.  Mark Andreessen of Andreessen Horowitz goes over fundraising, Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, talks about company culture and building a team and Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer also appears as a lecturer though the class topic is yet to be confirmed.  All the videos and material are viewable live and archived on Altman’s website and you can also join the Facebook group to submit questions (this must be done in advance) and participate in the audience debate.  So far the first 2 classes have taking place with the 3rd on Tuesday 30th September (see below for the full course schedule).

I’m sure you’ll agree, even if you have a vague interest in starting your own business one day, this is an unrivalled opportunity to learn from some the most successful entrepreneurs around.  As Altman put it himself, “You can’t teach everything necessary to succeed in starting a company, but I suspect we can teach a surprising amount.  We’re doing this because we believe helping a lot of people be better at starting companies will be good for everyone. It will hopefully be valuable even for people who don’t want to start startups.”  I don’t disagree with him!

I will absolutely be setting aside some time on Sunday afternoon to have a look at the first 2 sessions!  Follow up report on that to follow…..
